1-Minute Watch Lesson #002 – What Is Hacking Seconds?
Hacking seconds is a feature that stops the second hand when you pull the crown out to set the time.
This matters because it lets you set your watch precisely — you can synchronize it to an exact second (for example, with your phone time or a time signal).
Not every mechanical watch has hacking. Many older movements — and some budget movements today — keep the seconds hand running while you set the time.
If you want accuracy and clean synchronization, hacking seconds is a small detail that makes a big difference.
🧠 Watcher Insight:
Hacking seconds doesn’t make a watch “more accurate” on its own — but it makes you able to set it accurately.
